New York City

Why New York?

New York City is on the front lines of the climate crisis. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, by 2050, low-lying neighborhoods could experience frequent and severe flooding, and by 2100, under high-emissions scenarios, large coastal areas could be largely submerged. Beyond the risks of flooding, the city’s dense high-rise complexes are energy and waste intensive, making urban life a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. These realities mean that the choices New Yorkers make today about energy, transportation, education, and waste will directly shape both local and global outcomes.

New York City harbors an extraordinary concentration of talent and creativity. Thousands of students across the city are deeply concerned about the climate crisis and eager to act.
